Long time no see. I've fallen out of contact for about a year and a half (oops). Now that the year is approaching its end, I'd like to try to start a blogging habit again. Of course, I took the opportunity to create a new blog!

www.fiftyseas.com

My new blog name is a mash-up between one of my internet monikers and certain qualities of my real name. It feels quite personal so I'm hoping that I'll stick with it!

Please follow me if you would like (I'll be wishing you all the best either way!) I hope you're all on bloglovin as well, so I can follow your blogs from there.

much love,
I didn't want to pay to check in my baggage, so my challenge to myself was to pack my clothes in a carry on suitcase (knowing that I would have the opportunity to launder my clothes at least once during my trip). Also kept in mind that the temperatures would range from 4C~20C throughout the trip, so things needed to be easily layered and matching. One Sunday it was chilly/dreary enough to hail, some rainy days, some warm/clear days, etc.

I came up with this: 3 bottoms (jeans, floral patterned pants, cream trousers), 3 jackets (striped blazer, brown light cardigan, white crochet cardigan), 2 dresses, 3 light knit tops, 1 v-neck sweater, 1 collared blouse, 2 camisoles, blush ballet flats, black boots, scarf... and enough underwear for all the days.

In the end, the only thing I didn't wear was the mint dress (and only because I spent a few nights at another friend's place while leaving most of my luggage at a different place).

Now that I'm home, and know that I can survive with the above, I'm inspired to purge items in my closet that I've not worn in weeks! I am back in Houston! I'm not sure when I will get around to type up a post, so here is a little preview? Thanks to instagram haha!

My good friend Ame took me to Old Montreal last Saturday. We are both sketch enthusiasts so we ended up sketching on site... The weather was extremely lovely too. Just perfect :).

I ended up adding the watercolor when I was at Ame's place since I didn't bring my supplies in my day bag. I took some pictures instead, but you can see that I took some liberties with the colors.

Hello everyone! It's been a few weeks of silence from my end, haha! I confess, I just fell off of the blogging habit and was too lazy to make new posts. So this one will be a bit about everything.

I don't know if I mentioned it on my blog yet, but I'm an ex-architecture student. Even though I'm not studying to be an architect anymore, I still enjoy practicing my building-sketching skills. I follow a fantastic artist on instagram (Adrian/road_8), and every time he posts his drawings, I'm inspired to work on my own.

This week I'm going to Canada. I'll be in Toronto and Montreal for a week and a half. I'll be going to TCAF this year (the friends that I'm staying with are exhibitors!) I'm really excited, but mostly because this is the first time I'll get to meet these friends in person. And then I'm taking the train to Montreal to stay with my other friend. I'll post more on this when I'm back from my trip. Right now I'm just busy finalizing my plans and figuring out all my other personal deadlines for this month.
I decided to buy myself an ipad to bring on my trip (I just think of it as a gift to myself for my tax refund, haha, go go working girl)! My phone and ipad are twinsies right now :).
My old roommate invited me to see a Muse concert with her a few weeks ago. She works in another city (but was living in Houston when she bought the tickets) so she ended up flying down here and we had dinner downtown as well. :)

The show was really great, but honestly the best part was being able to catch up with this girl and just hang out!! Since I hadn't seen her since September of last year?

Anyways, I fell behind on commenting again, arghhh. Hopefully I'll post again soon.Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-19520844361154435632013-03-10T12:59:00.001-05:002013-03-10T12:59:07.221-05:00recent purchasesI feel like I've spent too much money lately, but at the same time I probably haven't shopped for clothes since Christmas? Haha if it seems like I'm rich... I'm not really, I work a full time office job and live at home so I don't really have bills to pay (and I do put half my paycheck into savings).

My ex-roommate invited me to watch Muse with her this Tuesday so I need to figure out what to wear (aka the best excuse to buy new clothes!!). Right now I have a dress option and a jeans option (it's a seated ticket since it's at one of those arena/stadium places); if it was a standing room only show I would wear the jeans for sure, haha, but since I'm most likely not going to be in the crowd (and groped) I was thinking that maybe a dress?

New lightweight blazers. This mint one is much lighter than my teal one (in color). And I like this striped b&w one as well. I have some colorful jeans (red) and trousers (violet) that I think would go nice with these, lol! And I can wear them to work.

Floral skinnies. I might wear this to the concert with a tank/cami and one of my blazers. I don't have a floral printed skinnies yet. I actually don't really feel the urge to buy too many casual clothes since I work in a business casual setting on weekdays. These jeans were on clearance for ~$10 which is a steal!! NO REGRETS, haha.

Dresses!! I laughed at myself as I picked out yet another minty blue dress (so cute though) and this lace pink/nude one. The cashier asked me if I was buying them for easter... but mostly I wanted new spring-y dresses. The pink/nude one came in a black color but I figured that I wanted lighter colors anyways. I might wear that one to the concert with a darker colored (aka not pastel!!) jacket and violet tights. (Both concert outfits will be paired with my chocolate brown oxfords.) Still undecided!!

I also bought new bras but unfortunately they forgot to take off the pin thing on one of them so I'll have to drop by the store tomorrow to get that fixed. Haha, I hate when that happens!
Opaque tights on sale, couldn't resist... I've heard nice things about the Maybelline Color Tattoos, so I wanted to try it out. I got the plum and the taupe ones, and I really like the plum for my daily wear. Also pictured: Nicole by OPI... these were actually on sale for about $2 which is the main reason I picked them up, haha. Rimmel lipstick... this one is okay. I'm actually trying to find a lipstick color for spring.
FlexArmor sleeve for my dslr. I'm planning on taking a trip to Canada in may. I have one of those big camera bags for my dslr, but I don't like it for travel since I don't want to have to keep track of another bulky bag, so I need something for my camera that I can just slip into my bag.

A new phone and case. My old phone has actually been broken for about 1+ years... mostly I think I've dropped it too much and broke the speaker. Every time I had to make a call (not often) or listen to music/videos/anything, my phone would emit this really loud static noise. Seeing that I plan on being out of the country in May, I actually need a working phone...

And now I've got to do some cleaning in preparation of M staying over!

I haven't posted in a while (again), sorry all! I'll try to catch up with some of y'alls posts (the latest one, at the very least) this weekend!

This is a continuation of the spring cleaning that I've been doing... I unearthed some of my mom's old harlequin novels back when she used to read them in the 90s (when she was an at-home mom). The ones pictured are books with summaries that seemed entertaining to me, haha. There are times when I want to read these really cheesy scenarios because I know I'm at least promised a happy ending... lol!

Generally I picked out these themes: secret children, fake/pretend relationships (that turn into more, obviously), taming-the-playboy-rich-CEO-etc... I can usually appreciate every ridiculousl cliche out there even though it's so... ridiculously cliche, haha!

I typed out the summary of this one:

Lydie had grown up too close to Marius Benedict to remain immune to her stepcousin's fatal charm. But Marius had merely seduced and abandoned her, leaving town under a cloud of scandal. Five long years and, no doubt, a dozen meaningless affairs later, Marius had walked back into her life, looking for all the world as if he owned it! The trouble was, he did.

As far as Marius was concerned, it was Lydie who was the deceiver. He had been away a long time--just long enough to have planned his revenge on Lydie Benedict down to the first quiver of her lips…

Hoping to read these for fun some weekend, so we'll see how that turns out, HAHA!Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-16369862827058049692013-03-02T12:20:00.002-06:002013-03-02T12:20:23.321-06:00mint/teal + pink

Sorry I've not been posting for a few days! I will catch up on comments/blogs/etc. today :). By the way, I'm not sure if Disqus notifies you when I reply, but I usually try to respond to every comment.

This past week was actually very fruitful for me. Last Saturday/Sunday I finally, finally, cleaned out the rest of my room and rearranged my furniture to my liking. Then my packages came in!

And finally, I've booked my plane tickets to Canada in May (I also bought my Via Rail ticket the week before), so those plans are being finalized. I think the only real thing I have to do is request those days off from work (and I've just accumulated enough PTO for it). Oh, and figure out a more tentative itinerary of what I plan to see when I'm there! The main event that I'll be attending is the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and meeting many of my online friends for the first time in person! I am friends with so many Canadians...

Anyways, this post is kind of about how I own many things in a teal/mint color and a pink color... I apparently really like that combination. Nail polish, hand bags, cellphone case, blazers, knit tops...

What about your closet? Any must-have colors or colors that you wear more than others?

(One of) my package(s) came in today! I am REALLY happy with both bags, they are exactly how I imagined them to be in person, so so so happy. I've already moved my things into this new purse (and such an easy switch too!). It came with a shoulder strap and I think I will carry my bag that way.

The weather was actually a little chilly today (last week we were in the upper 70s [F]). I don't remember if I blogged about this, but I re-purged my closet using the Project 333 rules as guidelines. I hadn't worn this dress or sweater in a while (but saved them from the purge!!) so I decided to wear it for work today.

Anyways, I drew myself with the new purse? Though I always draw myself different from how I actually look (I always end up drawing myself skinnier), and I haven't been sketching daily again, haha!Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-25634186240974486202013-02-25T19:09:00.001-06:002013-02-25T19:09:31.474-06:00organize your purse

After that last post about the things I carried around in my purse, Zane Saria and Emma Regulski had asked about how I kept everything in my bag/how things (like my cables) didn't get tangled up, and I realized: I actually do keep my purse clean and organized.

Of course, then, I got curious and wanted to see how other ladies organize the contents of their purse, so I went off to read some blogs about organizing purses. Some like using clear plastic baggies to keep similar items together, and some use this purse organizer thing called a pouchee.

The (current) purse from Target:

The only requirements that I have for my everyday purse is that: there is at least 1 accessible pocket for my phone (inside the purse in one of those 'phone' pockets or one that is outside) and that it is big enough for me to carry my 5x8 sketchbook around. This purse only has the interior zippered pocket, no phone-pocket, but there are nice side pockets in the outside that I use for my phone (when I don't have it glued to my hand, hah).

The interior zippered pocket contains these:

My keys and ID badge for work. I don't like having to fish around for these items so they are also easily accessible (but further in my purse).

I didn't take a picture of my sketchbook and notebook because <strike>I forgot</strike> I thought they were pretty self-explanatory. My pen hooks onto the band that keeps my sketchbook shut.

Next are the items that are allowed to 'float' freely in my purse (and get lost?):

They are pretty easy to find, because they have distinct shapes. I also don't really use those clips very much because my hair is short enough that I don't need too many hair accessories. They're there mostly for when I want to pin my hair back to eat food, haha!

Now for organizing things! I am a bags-in-bags person and use zippered pouches (and they both look/feel different). This is helpful for me because I like to change out my purse a lot and it makes it easier to transfer items, especially when transitioning to a weekend-bag.

My two pouches! The top one has my cables (to charge things if I need to when I'm at work) and the bottom one is my personal items.

This pouch is pretty small so the cables don't really get tangled up. As a point of reference, it's just big enough to fit my ipod nano (which sometimes gets thrown in the pouch like it is today).

Make-up, face stuff, feminine products, etc, in this little pouch. I like it because I can just take this pouch to the restroom if I need to and leave the rest of my purse locked up at my desk. When zipped up, the contents shift around so that the pouch is flat-ish.

Both pouches are structured as well.

I don't really have bits of trash because I don't stick them in my bag. I do have a little clear folder on the back page of my sketchbook (those who have ever used a moleskine or similar type of notebook know what I'm talking about). I sometimes put small flyers that are interesting or business cards or etc.

As for receipts... they of course go in my wallet! But I regularly take them out and store at home so I don't have to carry them around so much. My current favorite wallet (haha this one was also from Target) is this one:

It's large enough to carry many things, and it also looks kind of like a clutch and I can carry it around on it's own.

Lots of compartments! The top one has the receipts I get, some cash, and my debit card usually gets put there when I'm lazy. There are lots of slots for cards on the bottom as well (though most are like ID cards and my health insurance card haha). And a zippered middle for my change.

I also carry around stamps?! I keep meaning to send mail to some of my friends... I have all the postage ready, I am just lazy when it comes to the actual letter writing. I also have cash on hand just in case.

But yes, you can imagine that this wallet gets really thick if I don't empty out the receipts regularly.

This is my favorite meme because I can redo it over and over. Are your bags usually full of the same things all the time or do you switch it up once in a while?

I did this meme before but I scribbled it out on photoshop. There are some new things (for starters I've switched out my purses again, but I didn't photograph it since I am hoping to switch to new bag soon (yes... again.)

In my bag:

Botanicals Notebook by Rifle Paper - my sister gave me this 3-pack set for Christmas 2 years ago and I've yet to put anything in it. But I started to carry it around at least.

Hand Book Artist Journal - my sketchbook, I actually use it for everything (jotting down notes, etc.)

Uniball Signo 207 - pen I use for everything (sketchbook, paperwork, etc). I got too lazy to bring extra writing utensils.

Wallet

House/Car keys

Work keys

Oil-blotting paper

Mint gum (I am a gum addict)

Badge ID for work

Orange ipod nano

Phone

Hand lotion (Bath & Body works)

2 hair clamps (why two?)

Gloves with magic-fingers for touchscreen (why do I need this I live in Texas)

Ipod cable

Micro-usb cable

Cable pouch

Burt's bees lip balm

Rimmel London lipsticks (red and coral)

Neosporin (I once scraped up my knee in public at Uni and had to buy this)

Floss

Compact Mirror

Hand Sanitizer (Bath & Body works)

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara

Marc Jacobs Daisy Rollerball perfume

Makeup Pouch

Looking at this picture, my purse is actually fairly organized, haha! Any other 'essentials' in your bag? I find that I don't need to carry sunglasses around because I wear glasses. I don't carry a comb around either because my hair is naturally wavy and I don't mess with it when it's dry. My camera and nook are 'occasion' items that I take one days when I might use them, but for going to work everyday, this is what I have!

I... bought new purses again (even though I said I wouldn't). In my defense I looked at the purses that I do have and they are all brown/black.

This lovely mint one will be my new main purse! I really love this blush pink color (honestly I would have wanted the mint one in blush pink as well). The blush pink one is actually a clutch (misleading proportions going on in this display picture). They are being shipped to me right now, but there might be a delay because of winter storms.

I love how spring-y both colors are. It's already in the 60s/70s here in Houston and I honestly doubt we'll get a good enough cold snap, so I am already in spring mode!Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-10540968387037018382013-02-21T20:33:00.003-06:002013-02-21T20:33:47.040-06:00liebster award thing

(I've put these pictures up as a reminder to scan them in... someday.)

I'm not really sure what a Liebster Award is, exactly, (I think it's kind of like a meme-type thing but for bloggers?). I've read that it's given to bloggers with less than 200 followers, and a nice way to find new blogs to follow. Anyways, Supernat has nominated my blog and these questions seem like fun!

Details on receiving this award:

Each person must post 11 things about themselves.

Answer the questions that the nominator set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you’ve nominated to answer.

Choose 11 people and link them in your post.

Go to their page and tell them.

No tag backs!

11 Random Facts:

My first spoken language (Tagalog) is not the language that I speak today (American English). I only speak a few words in Tagalog and don't consider myself bilingual.

My siblings and I have birthdays 10 days apart from each other (July 16, July 26, August 5).

I love having drastic haircut changes (ie chopping off long locks to a short crop).

My "dream" crashed and burned and now I'm in the middle of finding a new one.

I wear glasses 24/7 and LOVE IT (I am maybe a glasses-phile.)

11 Questions from Supernat:

What's your favorite song?
King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men has been looping since the Merlin finale.
A movie that makes you cry?
The Blind Side, I cried like a little baby because I love scenes where I can believe in humanity again... also Up.

What's your biggest dream?
Traveling to every place I want to go? Meeting everyone I want to meet?

I will tag other people (and do the other half) at a later date :).Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-30979265807546383322013-02-18T19:07:00.002-06:002013-02-18T19:07:39.116-06:00outdoorsy

I keep meaning to take pictures of new things I've gotten (okay, mostly I'm talking about the 2 pairs of glasses that I just got), but I've been taking walks/exercising right when I get home and am definitely not ready for pictures! I don't really get home until around 5 on the weekdays which leaves an hour of so of daylight to go outside and get fit, which is my priority right now.

These photos were taken from a state park that the family and I went to on Saturday! I spent part of the day taking a walk on the trail and then spent the rest reading/chatting/eating good food.

Also, my friend Philippa featured some of my watercolor drawings in her blog! Thanks Philippa, you are too nice to me. And hello to the new followers :)! I probably followed all of you back because I'm enjoy reading any kind of blog, haha!

I feel like playing around with watercolors right now.

I'm a little nervous about posting these because an artist friend of mine is following this blog and is studying animation... at the same time you needn't be nervous about showing things you are practicing on, because it's just practice.

I draw as a hobby so any sort of art-study these days is self-directed... these are 60-second gestural studies using the Figure & Gesture Drawing Tool. I like using this more than Posemaniacs because Posemaniacs doesn't really show the folds of the skin/lighting/etc (though attending a life drawing session in person would be better than either of these.)

There's an option to practice with non-nude models. I've also practiced drawing from fashion photos (lookbook, tumblr, etc.) especially when I want to remember people's outfits.

I'm not very good at line economy (in all my drawings); I don't really lift my pen from the paper, either. I'll try harder next time (though I'm not really sure what I'm trying to aim for with my lines...)

Lately I am drawing with a Uniball 207 Retractable Gel Pen, mostly because it's so portable and I just hook it onto the strap of my sketchbook. Thinking about this reminds me that I want to make an Art Materials post like Philippa's.
The Art of Urban Sketching (Amazon) - I am a huge huge fan of Urban Sketchers so when I found out that they were planning on this compilation of sketches I ordered the book right away. As the title suggests, the sketchers featured are those who love drawing in urban settings (whether they draw people or buildings or landscapes, it doesn't really matter, as long as they draw from observation).
The Essence of Watercolour (Amazon) - I've never heard of this watercolor artist before, but the cover image is so striking that I decided to buy it as well. Drawn In (Amazon) - Another sketchbook compilation-type of book. The artists featured are very clearly in the design industry, and their sketchbooks are like works of art within themselves. It's clear that many of these sketchbooks are also used as an idea journal, rather than for observational sketches and such. Some pages are full of patterns, while others play with typography. Comic artists might have some comic panels in their sketchbooks as well.
Architects' Sketchbooks (Amazon) - I am biased because I used to study Architecture, haha! Architects are designers too, so I think that an architect's sketchbook is also a tool to explore ideas. I think there's a misconception that an architect's sketchbook is full of these insane perfectly measured perspective drawings, when in reality there might be pages upon pages of scribbles and diagrammatic schemes (think Frank Gehry sketches, hah). Anyways, there's a lot of variety in this book too, lots of collages, mixing 2d media with 3d rendering. Love it.
Maybe next I'll try to buy Fashion Illustration books next, though I've not really attempted to draw fashion illustrations. 100 Years of Fashion Illustration (Amazon) or Masters of Fashion Illustration (Amazon) or Great Big Book of Fashion Illustration (Amazon)?
One thing that I want to do for myself is to stop this train of thought where the things that I like are social stigmas that I shouldn't be liking (therefore I have to either hide it by not talking about it, or create a different online identity where I can freely express myself without 'tarnishing' my RL persona). I guess that's how I felt with all of my blogs: I would have a different tumblr for a different purpose (inspiration, drawings, and fangirly things) because I wanted to keep it separate but they are all me, and I'm not trying to convert people, so who cares, really.

Anyways, this is not really a rant, just talking about ereaders. :)

I've been reading technology articles about how the ereader market is 'dying' or at least it is slowing down. For the most part, I think this is true. I know that for me, having an ereader is really worth it, because I like reading books! Reading is 99% what I do when I am not drawing, however, I don't really read 'good' literature, haha, I read romance/fanfiction/etc these leisure reads (and I read both m/f and m/m stories). So it makes sense to just buy (or download if it's a fanwork) the ebook version of a harlequin romance novel and then you can read it on your ereader in public and be discreet about it! No more Fabio gracing the cover of your novel.

BUT, I still prefer buying the physical copy of books. If I were to read Life of Pi or the Hunger Games or Harry Potter, I would want the physical copy. Also, it's not embarrassing at all to read those books in public, because they have really nicely designed covers. Even Twilight has a very nice minimalist cover. There are m/m themed novels that I have physical copies of as well, because their covers are really nice: Captive Prince, The Song of Achilles, The Persian Boy, At Swim, Two Boys.

This is the same with colorful magazines, beautiful books, photobooks, etc. If it's something inspiring then OF COURSE I want the physical version!

Back to ereaders: I have the B&N Nook SimpleTouch. It uses eink (longer battery life than the ereaders that have LCD displays), and its primary function is to read ebooks. It's not really for magazines (which I don't read eversions of), or internet browsing, or playing games. I like eink because it's really easy to read with daylight and you aren't straining your eyes so much with the screen.

And like I said, I buy physical copies of books I like for my permanent 'collection', so most of my ebook collection is actually Harlequin-esque cheapies (or Mills and Boon if you're British), or fanfiction on the internet which is free. I'm actually kind of a beast about finding 'good' free reads (not the ones offered on the B&N or Amazon websites!!) because a lot of good writers write fanfiction. My Calibre library currently has 1200+ .epub files in it, and I would say that only 100 of them are the reads that I bought (everything else being legitimately free).

For ebooks I also try to buy directly from the publisher when possible so that I'm not really "locked" into a certain file type... so really, even though I have an Barnes and Noble ereader, I have yet to actually purchase an ebook from their store. So I'm not actually helping with their market...

Then you look at the Nook Color tablet or the Kindle Fire (the ones with the LCD screens)... and might wonder why you would get an ereader tablet when you could just get a regular Android tablet or an iPad, and they would essentially have apps you could install to read your ebooks!

Another thing about ereaders and tablets is that ereaders came out before the tablet market came out (a couple of years I believe?). Buying an ereader should mean that you want to read ebooks, but people were buying ereaders for internet capabilities and etc, and therefore what they really wanted was a tablet.

Reading is an activity where I can curl up with a book and get away from the internet, so having an ereader where the internet is just a button a way is definitely not the point of owning an ereader. These days, most people have internet on their phone anyways, so if you really want an ereader, I would shy away from the fancier types and just go with the basics. Is the basic too limiting for what you need? Then you probably don't need an ereader!

tl;dr: some reasons buying an e-Ink ereader might be for you:
+ You want to have an elibrary rather than a physical library (highly doubt this as most dedicated readers also love physical copies)
+ You are addicted to guilty pleasure reads like romance novels and don't want to be caught reading the physical version in public
+ You like to travel, and an ereader is a great and efficient way to load lots of books to read
+ e-Ink is fantastic for reading in sunlight! It's a reason to go outside. You can be solitary and disconnected from the internet and read at your own leisure (the internet isn't an easy swipe away and you can let yourself relax & read). You can read LCD screens outside too, but on e-Ink, the sunlight could be directly on your screen and it looks like you are reading on paper!
+ You just plain love reading and are a hardcore 10hours+ a read type of person (this is me), seriously, e-Ink is so much better!

You might want to invest in an LCD tablet (whether nook or kindle or samsung or apple) or etc you:
+ Want to browse the internet/check your email
+ Play games such as sudoku, crossword puzzles, etc
+ Want to watch movies on it
+ Reading in the dark (you could read in the dark with a tablet or on your computer screen, you don't need an LCD ereader for that)
+ Listening to music
+ Any other function that isn't primarily about reading books (general purpose uses)

I think ereaders are just becoming more of a 'niche market' item.Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-68351279796236279372013-02-09T13:52:00.001-06:002013-02-09T13:52:10.661-06:00consolidating my internet presenceDomain changes again! vividplanets.com -> blog.chrissiec.com (sorry for any inconveniences!). For now, vividplanets automatically redirects to this new domain, but I am not renewing it once august rolls around. This is the same with 52wk.org which will be redirected to art.chrissiec.com and chrissiecalderon.com which will be redirected to chrissiec.com. Though I'll probably renew chrissiecalderon.com as well, since it's my full name, just not as easily memorable as 'chrissie c'.

Anyways, I've been slowly consolidating my internet presence (real life vs online anonymity), first starting with creating a new twitter account that derives from my real name (chrissiec -> chrssc, or it can be read as 'chrss-c'/chris-sie?). My tumblr/instagram usernames match, too. I'm actually still hesitant on changing dA to match... I probably won't for now since I might not use that site as much...

tl;dr, drawing, etc, makes up who I am, whether it's animanga/BL stuff or urban sketching or whatever, so I'm at the point where I should just own up to what I draw, because it's all me!
I spent a crazy amount of time trying to configure this. I can't think of anything else to blog about right now, so I'm just crossposting a few things from my instagram:

Things I'm doodling in my sketchbook (playing around with india ink as well), things that I've eaten, and baby childhood pictures that I was looking at this past weekend while I was backing up some files.

My at-home project for the moment is re-purging my closet (also just restarting the september-cleaning again)! Feels so good, especially when I think about how I really don't wear those clothes anymore. Now I can continue my goal of upgrading my closet for work. :)Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-49170963859638984882013-01-22T00:16:00.001-06:002013-01-22T00:16:35.144-06:00practice hands

Graphite smudges in this sketchbook so I added watercolor to set the pencil lines. I wanted to mention that because the watercolor has another function besides making the sketchbook page look pretty.
Hands and feet are two of my weaknesses, so doing this is really informative and fun.Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-16526146942077713642013-01-20T14:32:00.003-06:002013-01-20T14:32:55.619-06:002013!

Hand Book Artist Journal is my preferred sketchbook... it's hard to find it in person without going to a specialty art store so I ordered it online (from dickblick). I ended up buying the 3-pack because I know I'll use it (and I have money to play with anyways :).)

Trying to get into watercolors again (I say this too much!). I think everyone works with watercolors a different way... I like watercolors that have the colors blending into amorphous blobs with gradients and etc? I like wet-on-wet washes a lot, but I'm often too impatient to wait for paint to dry (and that's where I get things wrong). But it's really fun to be see what happens when you use watercolors.

That said I really love Philippa's watercolor art! You are my inspiration, girl!!Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-67505188889622552672012-12-07T17:30:00.000-06:002012-12-09T00:04:11.502-06:00mugs!

My first ever purchase from etsy!! I guess in the past when I didn't have a job I was really good at not spending any money on this site. Anyways, the moment I saw that house cup I knew it was something I had to get! Loveee it! And I got the mushroom one too, hehe.Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-81174730300416305692012-11-18T02:10:00.002-06:002012-11-18T02:11:23.370-06:00dressing up

One of the aunts that I know had a 50th birthday party and the theme was "red carpet", which aka meant semi-formal wear? I thought about going out and buying a new dress for this party (also one that I could wear to work) but instead I decided to go with a dress that I bought recently. Red heels + red lipstick. I wear this dress to work as well (paired with a lace cami underneath + a cardigan so it's more appropriate for work).

Buuuut, I did end up going shopping again this weekend, this time buying boots for work (since I really don't own any shoes for cold weather other than my only pair of oxfords). And then I saw this green dress on sale that I bought for work. I don't usually wear this shade of green so that's pretty interesting...
It feels like it because I don't have a car anymore so I can't just spontaneously shop anymore, lol... Overall I think I did all right in terms of buying things that I can wear to work and on weekends (and I feel successful because I managed to get things on sale as well).
I always stop by f21 first. There was a veteran's day sale promo where the sale items had an additional 50% off? So I got all three for just under $30 total. I really like getting creme/neutral colored tops and pretty much anything in that salmon pink color.
Earrings! I actually haven't worn earrings a lot in the past, but I want to start wearing them to accessorize my work outfits. So this the beginning of a collection!
Some trousers. I always hesitate on buying any sort of pants/jeans/etc because I am fat right now and want to lose the weight (except I've only been half-heartedly doing my diet). I wonder if the red-violet one is too flashy for work, but I like it!
My favorite purchase are my new shoes! I already have black heels but I really love heels with pointed toes and I don't have black ones yet. Nine West pumps are always comfortable for me, I have a nude pair that I just absolutely loveee, so I am excited to add these to my shoe family!

I also bought pokemon black 2 (not pictured), but it just amuses me when I throw in a video game purchase while buying clothes because I have to walk into gamestop with a bunch of shopping bags in hand.Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8598509971506286791.post-89496474526211183542012-11-09T21:57:00.000-06:002012-11-09T21:57:07.564-06:00What's in your bag?

There was this bag meme doing around sometime last year where you draw out your bag and the things inside it! The last time I did it was when I was still in uni so the contents (and bag itself!) are different now. I use this bag for work and a different bag for weekends/fun stuff.

Contents:
+ red travel mug (after I finish drinking my tea or coffee and rinsing it out!)
+ orange ipod nano and orange earbuds
+ work ID badge
+ moleskine (gridded journal)
+ phone
+ wallet
+ desk key and home keys
+ pencil pouch + writing utensils
+ large pouch: girl things
+ small pouch: usb cables (just in case)Chrissiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13496197678111037475noreply@blogger.com0
